Frequently Asked Questions
| Q) | When I register, I selected Men's Doubles or Women's Doubles and the cart now shows Men's Doubles 50-64 or Women's Doubles 50-64. I didn't specify an an agegroup. How do I fix this? |
| Please ignore the 50-64 range on the cart. Reportedly, there are two different systems involved: the online system and a "backoffice" system. Last year there were two different items listed for both Men's and Women's Doubles: 50-64 and 65+ depending on the day you played. This created problems especially with partners with ages spanning the split. To simplify things this year, only one item is listed for Men's Doubles or Women's Doubles, but the "backoffice" system is placing everyone into everyone into an event labeled 50-64. As in the past, when we create the brackets, we will place your team in the correct age group bracket regardless of what the main ASO system says. As long as you are registered for Men's or Women's Doubles, we will get you into the event correctly. | |
| Q) | Where are the events played? How many courts are there? |
| All pickleball events will be played at the Sun City Marinette Recreation Center at 99th & Union Hills in Sun City. This is west of Union Hills and AZ101. They have 8 full-time pickleball courts, 2 tennis courts, and a shared court for tennis or pickleball. During the week, the Sun City Pickleball Club has reserved all the courts. ASO will tape off additional courts on the two tennis courts for a total of 16-20 courts. This will cover any additional growth and changes in the schedule with skill level play instead of Masters/Legends. This will also allow warm-up courts. | |
| Q) | What is the deadline for pickleball registrations? |
| February 12, 2010. Individual events may be added after this deadline at the discretion of the commissioner. | |
| Q) | What date does ASO use to determine my age? |
| Your age as of the start of ASO: February 20, 2010. | |
| Q) | I don't have email or internet access! How do I register. |
| All registrations must be made via the internet. Try to find a computer literate friend who can help. ASO is also holding help sessions. These are listed on the main ASO website ( www.seniorgames.org ). or click here. As a last resort, contact the ASO office on Tuesday or Thursdays between 9-4 for help (602-274-7742). They will do it over the phone but you must have a credit card. | |
| Q) | I have read and followed all the instructions on the ASO registration page, but still can't sign in, |
| Only the ASO office can help with account sign-in problems. See the previous question and answer. | |
| Q) | What if I lose my partner? |
| After the registration deadline, a substitution may be made if the player is already registered with ASO Pickleball. These are the only players we can verify are registered with ASO. The substitution will be responsible for paying any additional event fees. Fees cannot be transferred from another player. Any additional fees must be paid by check only. No cash or credit cards are allowed. An approved substitution must be made by 5pm the day before the event. | |
| Q) | Can I change partners prior to the deadline? |
| Yes, but you must call the ASO office (602-274-7742). You cannot do this online. | |
| Q) | What if I can't play, when and who do I notify? |
| Please notify us via email ( info@asopickleball.org ), phone 623-544-9424, or at the event desk during the pickleball events. We would appreciate notification by 5pm the day before the specific event. This gives time to adjust the play brackets for the remaining players. If we are notified the day of the event, we may mark the matches as a forfeit and not be able to update the brackets. Whatever the case or time, please notify us to eliminate matches being announced and waiting for players not to show up. | |
| Q) | Can I get a refund? |
| ASO policy is to only issue refunds for 1) Player's illness or 2) Bereavement. In both cases, documentation must be delivered to ASO and refunds will be determined on a case-by-case basis. | |
| Q) | During registration, it didn't ask for my skill level? |
| This is something we are trying to solve. As a backup, we intend to send emails from the pickleball tournament system to each player with the events we receive information on from the main ASO office. With this notice, a web link will be provided so the player can update information not provided during the registration process. This includes: community/club, skill level, and volunteer options. Please update this information. | |
| Q) | I got a notice about General Check-In. Do I have to check-in there? |
| General Check-In will be provided for pickleball players via their daily check-in at the events. Every player will be required to check-in each day and present a picture id with birthdate (driver's license, military service card, passport, etc.) We will also make every effort to have your t-shirts (optional merchandise item via registration) at the check-in. | |
| Q) | Will there be a daily check-in at pickleball? |
| All pickleball players will be required to check-in each day at the venue with a picture ID that contains their birthdate. This allows us to verify the player and know when all players are present for the event. | |
| Q) | Volunteer T-shirts? |
| Volunteers will receive T-shirts from ASO. This includes but not limited to: desk , venue, committee, and referees. If these people are players, the duties must be deemed sufficient to warrant it. | |
| Q) | What if I don't have a partner? |
| The current registration system does not allow you to register without a partner. First, please check the USA Pickleball website (www.usapa.org) for players looking for partners. If you do not find one please email your basic information (name, birthdate, phone, email, and event) to info@asopickleball.org. This information can be posted on the asopickleball.org website. | |
| Q) | Can I add an event later or T-shirt after I've registered? |
| Yes. Simply go through the same registration process again. The system should recognize that you are already registered and will not charge you again for the registration fee. | |
