Internet Registration Replaces Registration Book

by Irene Stillwell, ASO Executive Director

Arizona Senior Olympics will not be producing a printed registration book this year due to financial constraints. With a cost of over $25,000, the book was simply not a viable option for the struggling organization. In addition, ASO staff has been reduced to a point that mail-in registration is not possible for the small staff that remains.

Fortunately, the 2009 Games showed that many people prefer to register on the Internet, and many more would be willing to do so.

Although this is a departure from our usual way of operating, we are hoping that all our athletes will understand and cooperate.

For those who do not have access to computers, we will offer registration at the office or by telephone. Both of those options will require payment by credit card since all registrations will have to go through our computer system.

Registration for the 2010 Arizona Senior Olympic Games will begin on December 1st, and we urge everyone to register early since some deadlines will be in early January.

Registration will be very much like buying something online. Each person will need to have an "account." Those who registered online last year already have an account, and they will only need to bring that information up to date, register, for their events and pay their fee.

The program has been designed to be as simple as possible, but those who have any problems can call the office for help. There will also be workshops at several senior centers where you can receive help registering online.

Workshop locations include:

December 10, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Rio Vista Recreation Center
8866 W. Thunderbird Road
Peoria, (just west of Loop 101)

December 15, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Chandler Community Center
202 W. Boston
Chandler, AZ

If you have any questions or concerns regarding online registration, please call the ASO office 602-274-7742 on Tuesday or Thursday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
